Drowning

“2) If only my anguish could be weighed
and all my misery be placed on the scales!”

“8) Oh, that I might have my request,
that God would grant what I hope for,
9) that God would be willing to crush me,
to let loose his hand and cut off my life!”

Job 6:2, 8-9

At some point in time, many of us contemplate what it would be like to just be done with it all. We have grown so weary in the battle of life, fighting day by day simply to keep our heads afloat.

Yet, there are days when we are swept under, and for a moment, we are drowning. Further and further the cold darkness stills our hearts. We feel utterly helpless, counting down the final seconds until we take a breath; our lungs only filling with more cold.

Then, all is still.

But, the next day brings only more struggle, continually gasping for air only inches above the water yet again.

spit, sputter, spat

spit, sputter, spat

There is never an end!

But what are we doing here? WHY are we drowning?

With each of us is a life jacket, a thing to wrap around us and keep us safe.

Today, as so many teens have considered ending it all, let us take a moment to realize that we are not REALLY drowning.

Things like depression, bullying, low self-esteem, family issues, envy, anger, and helplessness are all weights, pulling us further away from shore, deeper into the lake.

But God has given you all that you need to stay afloat.

If you feel the cold waters rising in your life, read the bible. You would not believe how encouraging it is to read about the many people who have faced hardships just like yours and have been triumphant.

And, of course, build on your relationship with God.

By building a back and forth with the Lord, you can truly begin to live the life God has meant for you. This does not mean that times will get any easier, but it does mean that God will show you how to handle them.

PART I | PART III

Jeli

I have dimples. That is all you need to know. Just kidding. I am Jeli. In the past year I have undergone a lot of life-altering events in which my faith has really benefited. I have learned a lot about what I have done wrong and what I should do right. That is why I am here, on TAYA. I want to tell you guys about those things that I did wrong, and to brainstorm ideas with you all on how to do right. So venture with me, think with me, and pray with me. :) Let's do this thing!
