A Salesman for the Lord

So, it clearly states in the bible that this world is not our own (1 Peter 2:11), but unfortunately we are still stuck down here.  However, according to basically every Christian rule EVER in existence, we Christians are still told to live by a different standard, right?

Well, as we have talked about time and time again, it is really hard to live like a Christian in this world.  So, this being the case, what is the real reward for not living like everyone else is? I mean, it does say in the bible that we cannot earn our own salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9).

So you may ask yourself,Why did I say no to so many fun things?orWhy did I bust my butt in order to take the high road?”

To answer that question, take a quick gander through the bible. Countless stories show us that there were times where it was through the lives of Christians that others were brought to God. (What is the Meaning of Life).

But don’t get ahead of yourself, just because you do your Christian thing, does not mean everyone is going to make a b-line towards Christianity. However, we can still help to save others, even if we are only just a stepping stone.

My youth pastor once discussed with us the truth about witnessing. He said that many times he had worked with individuals never to see them actually accept God.

Considering, we must be willing to be that stepping stone. Not every person we try to witness to will change instantaneously. Righteousness is not a switch in the brain; it is only brought about by the Lord. It is our job though to really sell the benefits of God by living a life that is respectable, wholesome, and according to God’s plans (Romans 14:17-19).

So, now I expect to see you get out your polyester suit and bow tie, to slick back your hair, and to pull out that briefcase for you are a salesman for the Lord.

[Romans 14:17-19  “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”]

[ 1 Peter 2:11- “11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.”]

[ Ephesians 2:8-9- “8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”]

Jeli

I have dimples. That is all you need to know. Just kidding. I am Jeli. In the past year I have undergone a lot of life-altering events in which my faith has really benefited. I have learned a lot about what I have done wrong and what I should do right. That is why I am here, on TAYA. I want to tell you guys about those things that I did wrong, and to brainstorm ideas with you all on how to do right. So venture with me, think with me, and pray with me. :) Let's do this thing!

  • Great reminder Jeli!! So often it can get frustrating praying for someone and not seeing any changes and feeling like you did nothing!! Its good to step back and look at the big picture!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Sometimes, a long time later, people come up to me and tell me how I helped them in some respect because of my faith. This is always really cool when it happens :)
